Oak Storage Instructions

What You'll Need:

  • Your Oak ID and password.
  • Internet Explorer 5.x or higher (or Goliath, if you own a Mac).
  • An Internet connection.

Windows Instructions

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Go to the File menu and choose Open. (In IE 7, you may need to click on Tools and choose Menu Bar to find the File menu.)
  3. Check "Open as Web Folder"
  4. Type https://webdav.ohio.edu/~"your oak ID" into the "open" box

  5. Click Ok.
  6. When prompted, enter your Oak ID and password.
  7. You now can drag and drop files to and from your browser window, just like you would with a floppy or Zip disk.
  8. When finished, close your browser. If you leave your browser open, your files could potentially be accessed by someone else.

Mac Instructions

Tiger 10.4 now allows you to directly enter the server address in the 'Connect to Server' area of the Finder without having to use Goliath or MacSFTP.

Classic OS 8.1 or higher, OS X version 10.0.4 through 10.3.9:

  1. Download and install Goliath.
  2. Go to the Applications -> Goliath folder and double-click the Goliath icon.
  3. In the "New WebDAV Connection" window, enter https://webdav.ohio.edu/. After the final slash, type the first letter of your Oak ID, a slash, then the second letter of your Oak ID, a slash, then your full Oak ID:

  4. Enter your Oak ID and password in the appropriate boxes.
  5. Click Ok.
  6. You can now drag/drop and copy/paste to Goliath, just like in the Finder.
  7. When finished, close Goliath. If you leave the program open, your files could potentially be accessed by someone else.

Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger) and higher

  1. From the Finder, press Command K or click on the "Go" menu and choose "Connect to Server..."
  2. In Server Address box, type https://webdav.ohio.edu/. After the final slash, type the first letter of your Oak ID, a slash, then the second letter of your Oak ID, a slash, then your full Oak ID:
  3. Click Connect.
  4. When prompted, enter your Oak ID and password.
  5. Your Network Storage will appear on your desktop as a disk icon with the same name as your Oak ID.
  6. To log out of Network Storage, drag its disk icon to the Trash.

For users accessing Webdav from a private computer (example: office, home, etc) you can save time by saving your connection as a file on your hard drive.

  1. Select the Save Connection menu item in the File menu.
  2. Name your file and save to desired location
