Virus-Infected Attachments

Oak's virus filter and anti-virus software like McAfee and Virex provide good protection against known viruses; however, you still should be careful with unsolicited attachments, even if they appear to come from someone you know.

How to Avoid Infection

When you receive an attachment, ask yourself these simple questions:

  1. Do I know the sender?
  2. Am I expecting an attachment from this person?
  3. Is it normal for this person to send this kind of mail to me?
  4. Does the message text (if any) sound like it was written by the sender?
If the answer to any of these questions is "no", then you should not open the attachment without first checking with the sender to see if it is a legitimate file!
