Outlook 2002 Secure Configurations

New Accounts

  1. Go to the Tools menu and select Email Accounts.
  2. Select "Add a new email account" and click the Next button.
  3. Select "POP3" or "IMAP" (preferably IMAP) and click the Next button.
  4. In the "Your Name" field, enter your name as you would have it appear on outgoing mail.
  5. In the "E-Mail Address" field, enter your Oak email address ("username@ohio.edu").
  6. In the "Incoming mail server" field, enter "oak.cats.ohiou.edu".
  7. In the "Outgoing mail server" field, enter the outgoing ("SMTP") mail server provided by your internet service provider.
  8. In the "Username" field, enter your Oak username. This is equal to the portion of your Oak email address before the "@" symbol.
  9. On the bottom left corner of the E-mail Accounts settings window, make sure "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" is NOT selected.
  10. Click the More Settings button.
  11. Click the Advanced tab.
  12. Under Incoming Server, click to select "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)". Do not alter the port setting ("993" or "995").
  13. Under Outgoing Server, confirm that "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" is NOT selected.
  14. Click the OK button.
  15. Click the next button to view your email accounts.
  16. Click the Finish button to begin using Outlook.

Existing Accounts

  1. Go to the Tools menu and select Email Accounts.
  2. Select "View or change existing e-mail accounts" and click the Next button.
  3. Click to select an account from the list and click the Change button.
  4. On the bottom left corner of the E-mail Accounts settings window, make sure "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" is NOT selected.
  5. Click the More Settings button.
  6. Click the Advanced tab.
  7. Under Incoming Server, click to select "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)". Do not alter the port setting ("993" or "995").
  8. Under Outgoing Server, confirm that "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" is NOT selected.
  9. Click the OK button.
  10. Click the next button to view your email accounts.
  11. Click the Finish button to begin using Outlook.
