Outlook 2002 Secure Configurations
New Accounts
- Go to the Tools menu and select Email Accounts.
- Select "Add a new email account" and click the Next button.
- Select "POP3" or "IMAP" (preferably IMAP) and click the Next button.
- In the "Your Name" field, enter your name as you would have it appear on outgoing mail.
- In the "E-Mail Address" field, enter your Oak email address ("username@ohio.edu").
- In the "Incoming mail server" field, enter "oak.cats.ohiou.edu".
- In the "Outgoing mail server" field, enter the outgoing ("SMTP") mail server provided by your internet service provider.
- In the "Username" field, enter your Oak username. This is equal to the portion of your Oak email address before the "@" symbol.
- On the bottom left corner of the E-mail Accounts settings window, make sure "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" is NOT selected.
- Click the More Settings button.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Under Incoming Server, click to select "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)". Do not alter the port setting ("993" or "995").
- Under Outgoing Server, confirm that "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" is NOT selected.
- Click the OK button.
- Click the next button to view your email accounts.
- Click the Finish button to begin using Outlook.
Existing Accounts
- Go to the Tools menu and select Email Accounts.
- Select "View or change existing e-mail accounts" and click the Next button.
- Click to select an account from the list and click the Change button.
- On the bottom left corner of the E-mail Accounts settings window, make sure "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" is NOT selected.
- Click the More Settings button.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Under Incoming Server, click to select "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)". Do not alter the port setting ("993" or "995").
- Under Outgoing Server, confirm that "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" is NOT selected.
- Click the OK button.
- Click the next button to view your email accounts.
- Click the Finish button to begin using Outlook.
