Netscape 4.6 - 4.8 Secure Configurations
- Launch Netscape Messenger from Start Menu.
- Go to the Edit menu and select Preferences at the bottom of the list.
- In the "Category" window on the left; expand the "Mail & Newsgroups" list.
- Highlight "Mail Servers"
- In the "Incoming Mail Servers" window on the right;
If there is already a listing for Oak, click the "Edit" button and skip to step 7
Otherwise, create a new server listing by clicking the "Add" button.
- Under the "General" Tab:
- Enter "oak.cats.ohiou.edu" in the "Server Name" block.
- Select "IMAP Server" in the Server Type dropdown list.
- Enter oak username in the "User Name" block.
- Under the "Imap" Tab:
- Check the "Use secure connection (SSL)" box.
- Click the OK button.
- Back on the main "Preferences" page; under the "Outgoing Mail Server" section:
- Make sure "oak.cats.ohiou.edu" is entered in the "Outgoing Mail (SMTP) server" block, and that the user's Oak ID is entered in the "Outgoing mail server user name" block.
- Select the "Always" radio button under the "Use Socket Layer(SSL) or TLS for outgoing messages" option. (ref. fig 1.)
- Click the OK button.
- If settings are changed, a restart of Netscape may be required.
