Eudora 5 for Mac (Classic and OSX) Secure Configurations
Eudora 5.2 requires Mac OS 9 (or higher), and keychain access for SSL to operate properly. If running an older version of Mac OS, you will need to upgrade your computer first.
Keychain Setup
- Click the Apple Menu choose "Control Panels" and select "Extensions Manager".
- In the "Extensions Manager" windows verify that "Keychain Access" has as "X" in the On/Off box. If it does not then click on the On/Off box and click the Restart button at the bottom of the window.
Client Setup
- Launch Eudora
- When prompted, click Yes at the "use the system keychain to store your passwords" dialog.
- Click NO at the import settings and mail from a different email application.
- You should eventually be presented with a "Settings" Window, if not, go to the "Special" menu and choose "Settings"....
- Set "Username" to your Oak login name, e.g. user
- Set "Mail Server" to oak.cats.ohiou.edu
- Set "Real Name" to your Name
- Under the "Checking Mail" icon, set "Mail Protocol" to "IMAP". IMAP is the recommended mail protocol, especially if you use multiple systems to check the same account. If you currently use pop for your mail then select the "pop" radio button. A minimum of five minutes is advised if automatic mail checking is specified.
- Scroll down to the SSL icon, and select the following options:
- SSL for POP: Required (Alternate Port)
- SSL for SMTP: Required (Alternate Port)
- SSL for IMAP: Required (Alternate Port)
- Click OK to close settings window.
Keychain Setup
- The first time you attempt to check your mail, you will be presented with this message, click "open".
- Next make sure that the next window has these settings.
- Click OK, and then DONE at the next window.
- Close the Keychain Window.
- Click the check mail icon to retrieve your mail.
