Eudora 6.1 for Mac OS X Secure Configurations

New Accounts

If the New Account Wizard opens automatically, click the Cancel button to close it and follow these instructions.

  1. Go to the Special menu and select Settings.
  2. Click the icon on the left to select the Getting Started category.
  3. In the "Real Name" field, enter your name as you would have it appear on outgoing mail.
  4. In the "Mail Server" field, enter "oak.cats.ohiou.edu".
  5. In the "Userame" field, enter your Oak username. This is equal to the portion of your Oak email address before the "@" symbol.
  6. In the "SMTP Server" field, enter the outgoing ("SMTP") mail server provided by your internet service provider. If you are on campus or are using DialNet, you should enter "oak.cats.ohiou.edu".
  7. Click the icon on the left to select the Checking Mail category.
  8. If you are using IMAP, you may leave the "Location Prefix" blank.
  9. Click the icon on the left to select the Sending Mail category.
  10. Make sure that there is a check mark in front of Allow Authorization.
  11. Click the icon on the left to select the SSL category.
  12. Under Secure Socket Layer; SSL for Pop, SSL for SMTP and SSL for IMAP should all have selected "Required Alternate Port".
  13. Under Standard Port SSL Negotiation, select TLS 1.0 (Cyrus).
  14. Under Alternate Port SSL Negotiation, select Maximum Compatibility.
  15. Click the OK button to close Eudora's Settings window.

Existing Accounts

  1. Go to the Special menu and select Settings.
  2. Click the icon on the left to select the SSL category.
  3. Under Secure Socket Layer; SSL for Pop, SSL for SMTP and SSL for IMAP should all have selected "Required Alternate Port".
  4. Under Standard Port SSL Negotiation, select TLS 1.0 (Cyrus).
  5. Under Alternate Port SSL Negotiation, select Maximum Compatibility.
  6. Click the OK button to close Eudora's Settings window.
