E-Mail Forwarding
Help
NOTE: Please read information
regarding forwarding to non-University accounts!
How
Simple Forwarding Works
Simple forwarding sets both
your @ohio.edu addresses and your Oak account's server
address to forward messages on to a single location of your choosing.
This is the easiest way to make sure that all mail addressed to you at
Ohio University makes it to your preferred e-mail
account.
Why do I have two @ohio.edu
addresses?
Those address options are there for your
convenience. You can use either or both, depending on the situation.
They both deliver mail to the same account. By default, that is your
Oak account.
What about the @oak.cats.ohiou.edu
address?
Oak is the name of the server on which your
mailbox resides. Many years ago, this "server address" was the
standard way of addressing mail to Ohio University users. Class
registration information, class mailing list postings, grades, and
other automated mailings still use this server address to deliver mail
directly to your Oak inbox.
By default, your @ohio.edu
e-mail addresses are set to forward mail to your Oak account via the
@oak.cats.ohiou.edu address.
How Advanced
Forwarding Works
Advanced forwarding lets you specify
forwarding for your @ohio.edu addresses and your Oak
account's server address separately. For example, you can specify one
address for your @ohio.edu addresses and a different address
for your @oak.cats.ohiou.edu address. You also could specify
a forwarding address only for your @ohio.edu addresses while
leaving your @oak.cats.ohiou.edu address
unforwarded.
Please note that blanking out the forwarding
address for your @ohio.edu addresses on the advanced page
will reset those addresses to deliver to your
@oak.cats.ohiou.edu address.
