Setting Wireless Preferences

Entering your wireless device's information

(Agenda View | Tools | Options | Wireless | Device)

Enter your mobile device's phone number in the Mobile device number text box, and its type in the Mobile device type text box. Use the Mobile notification type drop-down list box in order to choose the kind of notification that you would like to receive, if you choose to receive wireless notifications. You can receive wireless notification in different ways:

  • Generic device: Notification can be received as a text message
  • Nokia 6100 Series: Notification can be received as a text message, calendar note or both
  • Nokia 7100 Series: Notification can be received as a text message, calendar note or both
  • Nokia 8800 Series: Notification can be received as a text message, calendar note or both
  • Nokia 9000 Series: Notification can be received as a text message or calendar note
  • Nokia 9200 Series: Notification can be received as a text message, calendar note or both

If you have chosen to receive calendar notes, you can select the Enable mobile device alarms checkbox. This tells Oracle Calendar to include a Reminder within the calendar note.

You can also enter the phone number of your preferred service center in the Preferred service center number edit box. This information is optional, as any number that you enter here will over-ride your default service center information, which is the phone number that the wireless data server uses. You may wish to leave this area blank.

Specifying when you would like to receive wireless Reminders and notifications

(Agenda View | Tools | Options | Wireless | Services)

Use this dialog to configure your wireless services:

Enable wireless services: Select this checkbox if you would like to have the ability to use SMS messages as Reminders or notifications, or to make information requests from your wireless device.

Note: You cannot use any of the following options unless the Enable wireless services box is selected.

Hold reminders and notifications: You will not receive Reminders and notifications while this checkbox is selected, although they will be held for you until you uncheck the box. At that point, Reminders and notifications for future events will be sent to you, while those that are for events that have already passed will be deleted. You can still make information requests from your mobile device while this box is selected. This is a temporary disabling of the feature and could be useful when you are attending a Meeting, for example, and do not wish to be disturbed.

Deliver reminders and notifications: You can specify a daily time range during which you would like to receive your Reminders and notifications. For example, you might only want to receive them during your work hours, and not when you are at home. In that case, specify a time range during which you would like to receive Reminders and notifications If you do not specify a time range, you will receive messages 24 hours a day. You can still make information requests from your mobile device while this box is selected.

Hold reminders and notifications outside this period: If you select this checkbox, Reminders and notifications generated outside of the hours you specified in the Deliver reminders and notifications area will be held for you. You will receive them during your next daily delivery period. At that point, Reminders and notifications for future events will be sent to you, while those that are for events that have already passed will be deleted. If you do not select this box, Reminders and notifications generated outside of your chosen delivery period will be erased. You can still make information requests from your mobile device while this box is selected.

Automatically notify when Entries are created, modified or deleted: If you select this checkbox, you will be notified by SMS message whenever an event to which you are invited is created, modified or deleted. You must select this checkbox in order to be notified.
