Ohio University offers a diverse, high speed, high reliability voice and
data network. Our voice network offers digital and analog telephone lines
in public spaces, offices, classrooms, and residence hall rooms, audio and
video conferencing, voice mail, automated call distribution, and advanced
emergency response features.
Our data network provides a mix of 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps switched Ethernet to
every office, classroom, lab and residence hall on the Athens campus, with
802.11 A/B/G wireless Internet available both indoors and outdoors over a large
portion of the campus. We currently are upgrading the entire Athens campus
to 100 Mbps switched Ethernet and 100% indoor and outdoor wireless coverage
for 802.11-compatible devices.
Ohio is a charter member of Internet2, providing dedicated, router-allocated
bandwidth for data transfers to and from other Internet2 member
institutions. We provide general Internet access via multiple ISPs over
physically diverse fiber optic paths with additional content caching
services via both satellite and land lines.
All Ohio University students, faculty and staff have free access to high
capacity, secure e-mail accounts, network storage, and online directory
entries. Comprehensive technical support is available for extended hours
during the week and on weekends, with emergency outage responses available
24x7.
